As part of your regular maintenance program on a NiteHawk sweeper, the hydraulic system filters are changed on an annual basis. One of the often overlooked components of the hydraulic system is your reservoir Breather/Filter.

The Breather/Filter sits on top of the hydraulic reservoir and allows the exchange of filtered air to the reservoir necessary during fluid level changes (due to temperature, pressure, and system operation). Breather/Filters are a crucial link in the hydraulic system, preventing airborne contaminants and moisture from entering the tank. If these filters are not changed on an annual basis, they can become clogged, allowing contaminated air into the system causing premature wear and possible failure of hydraulic components.

Osprey and Raptor Models
For owners of the Osprey and Raptor model sweeper trucks, there is a new Breather/Filter available for your system. It has an advanced 3 micron filtering system with higher contaminant holding capacity. This improved design should also help reduce the amount of hydraulic fluid that gets vented out of the cap.
